Award-winning Regional Mexican hitmakers Pesado are part of a generation of norteño bands who reshaped the classic genre for modern listeners.
∙ Formed in 1993 by accordionist Beto Zapata and bassist Pepe Elizondo, they had their first big regional hit with 1995’s “Eso Me Gusta.”
∙ Beginning with 2001’s Todo Tuyo, 18 of Pesado’s LPs have reached the Top 10 on Billboard’s Regional Mexican Albums chart—and four went to No. 1.
∙ Their hit 2007 LP, Gracias Por Tu Amor, generated controversy along with sales for taking on traditional ideas of male dominance and physical abuse in relationships.
∙ Pesado won Best Norteño Album Latin Grammy Awards for 2009’s Sólo Contigo and Desde la Cantina, Vol. 1, 2015’s Abrázame, and 2018’s Los Ángeles Existen.
∙ Their video for the 2013 single “Mi Primer Amor”—a song dedicated to mothers—has been a top-streaming pick on Mother’s Day playlists.
∙ In 2015, the band had four singles from their album Abrázame appear on Billboard’s Regional Mexican Airplay chart simultaneously.
Members of Pesado include, or have included, Beto Zapata, Pepe Elizondo, and Luis Mario Garza.
