Artist Biography
Friends since both attended university in Italy, Palestinian vocalist Nabil Salameh and Italian bassist Michele Lobaccaro formed Radiodervish in 1997, dedicating the group to the exploration of both Arabic and Western music traditions. With help from friend and collaborator Alessandro Pipino on keyboards (with various other musicians adding percussion and strings), Radiodervish released their 1998 debut, Lingua Contra Lingua, which won a Premio Ciampi for Best Debut Album. Arriving in 2002, Centro del Mundo attracted international attention, and two years later Radiodervish issued In Search of Simurgh, a project conceived by composer, producer, and performer Saro Cosentino and inspired by 12th century Sufi poet Farid ad-din Attar's The Conference of the Birds. The group continued a prolific release schedule over the next decade, including 2013's Human. ~ Marisa Brown
