Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. I remember listening to a funk mixtape with my dad while driving around southern Illinois when I was a kid. It had songs like Celebration and Funky Town and I remember feeling filled with joy. That was the first time I realized music could be fun.
What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? Marvin Gaye, What's Going On Remastered Stevie Wonder, Songs in the Key of Life The Jimi Hendrix Experience, Electric Ladyland Listening to Electric Ladyland was the first time I realized how incredible music could be. I got into What's Going On after moving back to Chicago and reconnecting with my roots. Songs in the Key of Life is a masterpiece.
Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. Tell us why you chose this song. “Knock On Wood” I feel like I just nailed it in every way with this song. I love how simple the melody is over such sophisticated chords. I am grateful I got to bring back some old school vibes with this one.
What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? Meeting Ringo Starr last summer on his eighty-fifth birthday in Beverly Hills was the most memorable moment of my career so far. It honestly felt like a dream that came true. He's a great guy.
Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band? I would love to play a festival like Bonnaroo. I used to go there every year for years. It still has some of the most inspiring shows that I have ever seen and I would be honored to bring that magic back as an artist.
