French composer Reynaldo Hahn (1875-1947) is best remembered for his songs for voice and piano. A student of Gounod, Massenet, and Saint-Saëns, he created music notable for its elegance, melodiousness, sensuousness, and exquisite craftsmanship. He wrote in a variety of genres, particularly vocal works, including opera, operetta, and musical, but those pieces have not endured. Hahn was also active as a conductor, music critic, opera manager, and served briefly as director of the Paris Opera. Among his most popular songs are "Si mes vers avaient des ailes," "Quand je fus pris au pavillon," "L'Heure exquise," and "À Chloris."
