One of the leading lights of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal, Samson was formed in 1977 by guitarist Paul Samson. After their well-received debut, Survivors, Samson recruited vocalist Bruce Bruce and signed with RCA, recording Head On and Shock Tactics. In 1981, Bruce Bruce left to join Iron Maiden, achieving superstardom under his real name, Bruce Dickinson. His replacement, Nicky Moore, joined for the excellent Before the Storm and Don’t Get Mad, Get Even, but, uncomfortable with the American-style soft rock favored by Polydor, the band split. Samson re-formed for the classy Refugee (1989), and 1993. After a six-year hiatus they reunited once more to celebrate their 20th Anniversary. Paul Samson lost his battle with cancer in 2002. ~ Rovi Staff
