A son of Ohio (born 1978), trumpeter Sean Jones is also a graduate of the horn school of Miles Davis, Freddie Hubbard, and Clifford Brown. Jones took up the trumpet early in grade school and eventually established himself in Cleveland jazz clubs and with the Cleveland Jazz Orchestra. More education and higher profile gigs--Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, Gerald Wilson, Jimmy Heath--followed. Signing with the Mack Avenue label, Jones has led several very-good-to-excellent straight-ahead hard-bop sessions.
