Artist Biography
Secrets of the Sky are a five-piece metal band from Oakland, California. Their sound is blackened doom metal with neo-psychedelic and progressive atmospherics and sonics. The band was founded by guitarists/keyboardists Chris Anderson and Clayton Bartholomew, who began playing together in 2009. In 2010 they began writing formally with the notion of assembling a band around their shared musical ideas. Numerous rhythm sections and vocalists were auditioned before a lineup solidified. In 2011 drummer Lance Lea, bassist Ryan Healy, third guitarist Andy Green, and vocalist Garett Gazay rounded out the sextet. After spending another year rehearsing, composing, and playing shows in and around the Bay Area, they entered Trident Studios in 2012 with producer/engineer Juan Urteaga to record To Sail Black Waters, which was released by Gravedancer Records with distribution through EMI in early 2013. After a period of relentless touring, Anderson left the band and was not replaced. Signing to Metal Blade, Secrets of the Sky re-entered the studio and cut their sophomore outing. Pathway was released in the spring of 2015. ~ Thom Jurek
