Not to be confused with the Shaggs, the Shag was a Milwaukee psych-garage combo that had a hit in 1967 with "Stop & Listen." Factual info about the group is limited, but it is known that by 1969 the Shaggs were in San Francisco honing the psych and Dylanesque qualities in their sound. But those songs might not ever have come to light were it not for Orlando-based reissue specialists Gear Fab, who put out 1969 in July 2005. The label's press materials for the record stressed its prominent flute and fuzz guitar elements. ~ Johnny Loftus
