In the artist’s words:
Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. I wan born legally blind and learned to play and sing by ear. I sang in my high school gospel choir (CHS 251), earning a BA at 17, and received a full scholarship for Jazz Voice/Music Education (UArts) before signing with LaFace Records in '94.
What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? Az Yet, Az Yet Quincy Jones, 20th Century Masters - The Millennium Collection: The Best of Quincy Jones Stevie Wonder, The Complete Stevie Wonder I love albums that are spearheaded by writer/producers. I admire anyone with a rare gift to execute a vision relentlessly. I enjoy working with artists and musicians from all walks of life who share a common vision.
Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. Tell us why you chose this song. “One Destiny” This song is dedicated to the coral reefs, of which 90% are expected to disappear by 2050. The lyrics highlight the broader interconnectedness of all life of Earth.
What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? My first professional collaboration was with legendary producers, Babyface and David Foster on Az Yet's a cappella rendition of 'Hard To Say I'm Sorry.' The single (and album) went on to sell millions of copies and receive a Grammy nomination.
Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band? Much of my best work, from a purely creative standpoint, remains unknown to the general public. In the time I may (or may not) have left on Earth, I'm working to correct that. Stay tuned!
