About Solstafir
Iceland's Sólstafir began as a black metal group whose music gradually developed into atmospheric post-rock. The band was founded in 1995, and after several demos and EPs, their debut album Í Blóði og Anda was released in 2002 after some delay. Like its successor Masterpiece of Bitterness (2005), it was still based in black and Viking metal. With their third album Köld in 2009, post-metal elements could be heard in the Icelanders' music, and it came to the fore on the following albums Svartir Sandar (2011) and Ótta (2014). On their sixth album, Berdreyminn, released in 2017, their psychedelic post-rock was even more moderate. Elements of black metal began to slip back in on 2020's Endless Twilight of Codependent Love and 2024's Hin Helga Kvöl.
