Artist Biography
As a contestant on the third series of the U.K. The Voice, the Wakefield-born singer Sophie May Williams wowed audiences with her jazz-influenced performance and her assured and mature voice. Citing her favorite singers Amy Winehouse, Billie Holiday, and Sarah Vaughan, among other greats, Williams' taste in music and style was influenced by her granddad playing jazz and easy listening classics when she younger. Enamored with this musical style and sound, she later learned the piano, saxophone, and clarinet to obtain a greater understanding of music. She entered The Voice in 2014 and got through the blind auditions with judge and mentor will.i.am picking her for his group. Under the guidance of the Black Eyed Peas frontman, she reached the semi-finals and was eliminated. In March 2014, she released singles of two of her most memorable performances on the show, "Moon Dance" and a cover of Lorde's "Royals." ~ Aneet Nijjar
