In the artist’s words:
Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail.
My father's record collection was my first home. We were in exile, and wherever we landed a new house, a new apartment the turntable and the stereo went up first. Before the boxes were unpacked, the music was already filling the room.
What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular?
Alice Coltrane, Journey in Satchidananda
Kool & The Gang, Spirit of the Boogie
Ronnie Foster, Two Headed Freap
It opens up space and carries you somewhere. Sophisticated, but it still moves you. And it lasts. Those are still magnificent decades later.
Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. Tell us why you chose this song.
“Love You Deep”
It opens up a brand new day in my career. A song that is very personal to me but at the same time can reach out to so many people.
What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far?
Jazz festivals, the Festival d'été de Québec, festivals around the world. I've sung in front of some of the biggest crowds there are, and on television. My heart never stops loving the music, and I sing like I know it.
Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band?
Yes: to carve out my own niche. A place where my artistic perspective is fully realized, where I'm free and celebrated at the same time. I haven't had that yet.
