Artist Biography
In the artist’s words:
Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. On a road trip with my dad when I was 10, we listened to Switchfoot's "Beautiful Letdown" beginning to end. And we talked about every song, disecting each snare hit and each guitar riff. There was a universe opened to me that day.
What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? Coldplay, A Rush of Blood to the Head U2, The Joshua Tree Remastered For Coldplay and U2, I think there's nothing quite like the music that first inspired you as a kid. These albums are inescapable to me. For John Van Deusen, this record is all seasons music--the kind that I still find new when I hear it.
Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. Tell us why you chose this song. “Irony” I wrote this song in the midst of a big move in my life...one marked by loss and reflection. Somewhere after the pain you look back and find the other stuff--irony, humor, and wisdom. This is a song looking at itself in the mirror.
What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? I remember a few years back seeing a video of a fan recording a cover of one of my songs. That was a surreal moment--when I recognized that my music was transcending my own voice.
Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band? I want to play the Bubble Bowl with Squidward and the gang.
