Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. Seeing the Beach Boys live in concert with my Dad was one of my earliest memories of music. Another one would be listening to Paul Simon's "Graceland" album as a kid. My parents said it was the only thing that would calm me down as a baby.
What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? A Tribe Called Quest, The Low End Theory Nirvana, Nevermind Radiohead, Kid A Each of these albums shaped me in a deep way. Each shaped a different side of me that I bring to the studio and stage every time I get on the mic or pick up a guitar. I wouldn't be who I am today without the music on these records.
Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. Tell us why you chose this song. “Groundskeeper To The Shrine (feat. Mistah Levy)” This is the first song of mine that has connected with an audience around the world. It's the first time a song was so easy to make that I felt it made itself. I think it's because I put my entire being into it and just let it flow.
What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? Meeting my lyrical idol in hip hop, Homeboy Sandman. He told me he's a fan of my work, that I was talent-based, not performative or gimmicky. I also met Flying Lotus - he signed a Cosmogramma poster that is hanging in my studio to this day.
Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band? Performing at an outdoor festival like Coachella, Bonnaroo, or Gov. Ball is a dream that I plan to see to fruition. I also dream of collaborating with visionary artists like Tyler, The Creator, Tierra Whack, Thundercat, Toro Y Moi, and others.
