Behind the gentle, thoughtful vocals of lead singer Iris, Japan's Taffy navigate noisy indie rock, jangly sweet indie pop, and elements of shoegaze, grunge, punk, and more. Their first album, Caramel Sunset, established their broad-based, textured approach in 2012. Albums like 2013's Lixiviate (featuring a dreamier cover of the Cure's "Boys Don't Cry"), 2017's NYCtophilia, and their sixth LP, 2025's lull (featuring a version of R.E.M.'s "Hairshirt"), followed suit.
