In the artist’s words:
Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. I come from a musical family, and my grandparents used to play around the house on Sundays. My grandfather would sit at the end of his black and white couch and strum his country chords with a big smile, while my grandma did "accordion solos".
What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? City and Colour, Bring Me Your Love Death Cab for Cutie, Plans The Tragically Hip, Yer Favourites I think these albums have some of the best songwriting you can find, both in arrangement and in lyricism. Themes of love, loss, nostalgia, pain and recover, and deeply esoteric turns of phrase about the places we call home.
Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. Tell us why you chose this song. “Broke But Never Broken” I wrote this song about the sacrifices my mother made in raising me and my siblings in deep rural Saskatchewan. Her life turned out much differently than she imagined, and though we struggled, she never let it hold her back or break her spirit.
What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? In 2018, my previous band played two festival slots on the same day. We finished one in the late afternoon and drove five hours to the next venue, where we closed down the side stage. It was logistically difficult but it worked out perfectly.
Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band? I would love to do a collaboration with a major electronic artist. I have a huge appreciation for what they can create and I've seen them make amazing things out of the smallest little pieces of guitar and synth tracks. It's such a good vibe.
