This band, formerly known as Sinister Sam, released one recording under that name, Trudge in 1994. But when a legal dispute ensued involving a band in San Jose, California with the same name, they changed their moniker to Shunt. Oddly enough, an electronica band in France had recorded as 'Shunt' as well, and the Ottawa-based Shunt found themselves embroiled in yet another dispute over a name. However, trademark papers attest to the Ottawa-based band as having prior claim to the name, under which they recorded and released their self-titled e.p. in 1998, on the label Sinister Music. ~ Roxanne Blanford
