As a spoof of the Benedictine Monks of Santo Domingo, Rhino Records issued an EP by "The Benzedrine Monks of Santo Dominica" in 1994. Unlike the monks from the actual Spanish monastery, the Benzedrines don't sing time-honored liturgies. Instead, they apply the hollow, reverbed arrangements of a cappella Gregorian chants to modern standards like "We Will Rock You," "Smells Like Teen Spirit," and "Da Ya Think I'm Sexy?" Unlike the Benedictine Monks, however, the Benzedrines didn't make the Top 20, or even come close. ~ Richie Unterberger
