A Dutch metal band that also bills itself as "The Original Covenant," though it's uncertain whether this is in response to the 1993 Covenant, which was a cover name for solo artist Dave Gryder, or to the contemporary industrial band. The band first came together as a quintet in 1988; van der Reep and Stap are the surviving founding members. Relentless and dark, their songs feature English lyrics and familiar styles, with a distinct influence from Black Sabbath and Uriah Heep. In keeping with the career track of many metal bands, their latest release is a live set, entitled, with blinding originality, Live! ~ Steven McDonald
