Janet Beveridge Bean, vocalist of Freakwater and 11th Dream Day, and James Elkington, former Zincs songwriter, started collaborating in 2002, with the idea that they'd play covers and folk standards. Soon Elkington was inspired to create originals, and the duo expanded into a five-piece, playing a sophisticated blend of genres that lounges on the quieter end of the jazz-folk spectrum. The Chicago group's 2009 debut on Hidden Agenda has garnered positive reviews from critics who are touched especially by Elkington's erudite lyrics and Bean's haunting voice.
