Artist Biography
The National Jazz Trio of Scotland have more than three members, and they don't really play jazz; however, they do offer an imaginative and intelligent take on pop music, anchored by the spare yet evocative keyboards and electronics of Bill Wells and simple but ethereal vocals of Lorna Gilfedder, Kate Sudget, and Aby Vulliamy. Their first proper release came in 2012, when they brought out The National Jazz Trio of Scotland's Christmas Album, a collection of holiday-themed songs interpreted in their distinct style, which included contributions from Norman Blake of Teenage Fanclub. With four additional musicians joining in, the combo released its second album, Standards, Vol. II, in 2013. They returned to their stripped-down sound on Standards, Vol. III. ~ Mark Deming
