About Thomas Mesa
Thomas Mesa, a cellist from a Cuban-American family, began lessons at an early age. After earning his degrees, he went on to achieve prominence as the 2016 Sphinx Competition First Prize winner and has performed as a soloist with orchestras such as the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Cleveland Orchestra, and Philadelphia Orchestra. His collaborative work spans classical repertoire to contemporary commissions, and in 2025, he received the Lincoln Center's Avery Fisher Career Grant. In 2026, he released 17(67), his second solo album featuring a historic 1767 Nicolò Gagliano cello.
