In the artist’s words:
Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. I'm from a musical family. One of my earliest memories is my mother playing piano and my father playing ukulele banjo and we'd all sing along! Later on when we finally got a record player then the music of The Beatles & many others played constantly!
What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? Gil Scott-Heron, Moving Target Jethro Tull, Thick As A Brick (25th Anniversary Edition) 1997 Remaster The Beatles, Revolver Revolver is in my blood, This as a Brick is in my heart and Moving Target fed my mind. To this day they're still on heavy rotation on my playlists. I grew up with The Beatles, came of age with Thick as a Brick and Moving Target led me into the world.
Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. Tell us why you chose this song. “Six Years” It's a very personal song about a transition point in my life when I returned to the UK for the first time, after living for 6 years in Canada. On the other side of the pond I reconnected with kin and clan and rediscovered myself. And there I was.
What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? There's been so many but I'd have to say opening for Ian Dury and the Blockheads at The Edinburgh Festival back in the early 1980s. I learned so much that night and it all stood me in good stead for the future. It gave me a big boost of confidence!
Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band? I just want to keep getting better at everything - playing, singing, songwriting, producing etc. It's not about glittering prizes but more about a sense of personal fulfillment and a determination to keep going on this lifelong musical journey.
