Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. I remember when I got to sing backgrounds for Kanye West when he was touring Jesus Walks at different churches in the DMV. That was when I knew this was what I wanted to do for my career! It was an amazing experience that showed me the industry.
What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? 3 Doors Down, Away from the Sun Beyoncé, I AM...SASHA FIERCE Kanye West, The College Dropout These three albums were on an endless loop when I first heard them. I know every word, tone, inflection, transition. So much of my style of lyricism, storytelling in my music, and emotional complexity can probably be attributed to them in some way.
Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. Tell us why you chose this song. “Pompeii” Beyond it being my most successful single. I love everything about this song from the wordplay and the sensuality of the song to the hypnotic yet intoxicating beat that makes you want to dance. It also represents a shift in my music quality.
What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? Being invited to perform in Toronto, Canada for PRIDE was otherwordly. I was received with so much love and it also happened to be my first ever PRIDE that I got to attend. One for the history books!
Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band? I hope to have an opportunity to tour, perform for world pride, and make it into mainstream hearing my music on the radio and hopefully one day getting a chance to perform on a major stage like MTV or BET Awards like many of my idols.
