Saul Williams is a revolutionary poet, an award-winning screenwriter/actor, a prolific writer, and a musician dissolving borders between numerous genres. He first established himself as an influential slam poet, and gained attention for playing the lead role in the 1998 film Slam, as he launched his music career. His debut album, Amethyst Rock Star, appeared in 2001, fusing hip-hop, blues, rock, and drum'n'bass. He soon became a frequent collaborator of Trent Reznor, who produced 2007's The Inevitable Rise and Liberation of Niggy Tardust. 2011's Volcanic Sunlight was described as his "pop" album, and the conceptual MartyrLoserKing, co-produced with Justin Warfield, appeared in 2016. Williams co-directed the sci-fi musical Neptune Frost in 2021, and its soundtrack was released the following year as Unanimous Goldmine. 2025 collaboration Saul Williams Meets Carlos Niño & Friends at Treepeople received a Grammy nomination, and seventh studio album Leap Life arrived in 2026.
