About Vazz
Initially a post-punk duo with an ethereal sound that foreshadowed dream pop, Scotland's Vazz currently exists as a solo project, mainly concentrating on impressionistic piano works and ambient compositions. Multi-instrumentalist Hugh Small and vocalist Anna Howson issued a handful of limited cassette and vinyl releases during the 1980s, blending haunting vocals with flickering guitar riffs and skittering drum machine rhythms. The pair's complete recordings have resurfaced digitally and on vinyl through several reissues and archival releases during the 2010s and 2020s. Concurrently, Small uses the name Vazz for his instrumental solo work, from beat-driven tracks to the solo keyboard pieces of releases like 2024's Anatomy of a Piano. Your Lungs and Your Tongues, a vinyl expansion of the duo's 1986 mini-album, was issued in 2025.
