About VHS or Beta
Formed in 1997 in Louisville, Kentucky, VHS or Beta began their creative life as a noise punk band in the vein of MBV and Sonic Youth. When the electronica revolution caught fire by the turn of the millennium, the group had transformed into a more dance-oriented outfit, combining their love of ‘80s alt-rock-inspired pop hooks with Daft Punk-esque filter swept funk on their self-released debut, LE FUNK (2002). A rigorous touring schedule ensued, followed by their first Astralwerks release, NIGHT ON FIRE (2004), revealing a sound that slotted perfectly into the blooming post-punk revival. A nationwide tour supporting Duran Duran followed, accompanied by a second full-length, COMETS ON FIRE, in 2007.
