In the artist’s words:
Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. When my high school English teacher made us analyse Biggie's "Me and my bitch", as a poetry and creative writing exercise. My consumption of rap music morphed from listening to entertaining lines, to a comprehension of work from urban poets.
What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? JAY-Z, Reasonable Doubt Lupe Fiasco, DRILL MUSIC IN ZION Reasonable Doubt was the birth of relatable yet aspirational luxury rap, for me, and it informed my appreciation for intricate wordplay. Drill Music in Zion, I connected with on a fine art level and was inspired by Lupe's mastery of storytelling.
Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. Tell us why you chose this song. “God's Will (Radio Edit)” An empty pool, meant to be demolished and covered up, got filled by a freak rainstorm. My 18-month-old cousin fell in the pool and lost his life, on his mother's birthday. Had a Jehovah's witness not knocked, he wouldn't have had access to the pool.
What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? Producing a conceptual album on death and the various stages of grief, and curating a new "adult contemporary rap" sound. A blend of original compositions, that are brought to life by live instruments that stay true to both jazz and hip hop.
Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band? To help people find the vocabulary to grieve and make death, as a subject, less taboo.
