Wally Fowler quit the floral industry in 1936 to become lead singer with the John Daniel Quartet, whose repertoire varied from gospel to variety songs. He composed a number of hits for other artists, including "I’m Sending You Red Roses," "That’s How Much I Love You," and "I Couldn’t Believe It Was True." In 1944, Fowler formed his own group, dubbed the Harmony Quartet. The quartet began to sing in weekly concerts for children in nearby Oak Ridge, Tennessee, which led to Fowler renaming the group the Oak Ridge Quartet, who became regulars on the Grand Ole Opry, and would later become the million-selling Oak Ridge Boys. After going into semi-retirement, Fowler surprisingly returned with a country chart hit, "Lo And Behold," in 1984.
