About While
Based in Washington, D.C., While is the lone American representative on Musik Aus Strom, one of Germany's top experimental techno labels during the mid-'90s. Little else is known about the artist, who has also built a home at the American label Chocolate Industries with several full-lengths of crunchy breakbeats, melancholy melodies, and engaging productions -- perfect to file alongside fellow CI representatives Push Button Objects and Funkstörung. While debuted on the MASK compilation series, the much-hyped EP series launched by MaS in conjunction with Britain's Skam, and followed with 1999's Seek EP. Midway through 2000, the quasi-LP Lock appeared on Chocolate Industries. Hot on its heels came Even, plus the 2001 remix album Slip with reworks from Savath + Savalas, Fennesz, and John Herndon's A Grape Dope project.
