It didn’t take long for rock kapak aficionados to recognise that KL-based Wings were truly something special. With a potent blend of hard-rocking hooks, cerebral lyrics and a boisterous stage presence—led by the indefatigable Awie—their 1988 debut Belenggu Irama became the first of a long list of multi-platinum records. Three decades on, Wings are rock royalty. And, despite some discord and member changes, they refuse to be grounded, with their biggest anthems like “Sejati” and “Hukum Karma” now certified classics that are still in heavy rotation on local radio and TV.
