Artist Biography
Formed in the Bronx, New York, USA, in 1979, a cappella group Yesterday’s News originally comprised Tony Delvecchio (lead and first tenor), Vinnie Gallo (lead and second tenor), Charlie Valentine (baritone), Vito Ferrante (second tenor) and Dennis Elber (lead and bass). Both Valentine and Ferrante were then quickly replaced by Vic Spina and Charlie Rocco, who both sang lead. With a mutual love of 50s and 60s doo-wop and harmony, they set about rehearsing a set of period standards. Like many bands of their time devoted to an earlier pantheon of vocal groups and singers, the group found a sympathetic home at United in Group Harmony Association Records in 1979. Their debut arrived in the form of ‘The Mickey Mouse Chant’, before shows supporting the Skyliners, Chantels and Flamingos at New York’s Beacon Theater. They also supported seasoned doo-wop singers in the absence of their original bands - engagements that included collaborations with Earl Carroll (Cadillacs), Eugene Pitt (Jive Five), Lenny Cocco (Chimes) and Emil Stucchio (Classics).
