The UK MC offers somber street tales with a personal outlook.
Artist Biography
South London rapper Yungen flips between street anthems and romantic collaborations with ease. Born Clive James Brooks in 1992, the versatile MC has always been invested in weaving hardened tales of his lived experiences with pop-leaning radio hits. His debut album, 2014’s independently released Project Black & Red, saw the artist unfurl ominous bars over dark, propulsive production, like on the Sneakbo-assisted highlight “Ain’t On Nuttin.” In 2016, Yungen released the single “Take My Number,” a flirtatious effort featuring West London singer Angel. On “Bestie,” released the following year, Yungen playfully interpolated 50 Cent’s 2003 single “Many Men (Wish Death),” turning it into an opportunity to flex about his dating prowess. In 2019, Yungen dropped Project Purple, which was led by “Comfortable,” an introspective song about loyalty featuring British musician Dappy. The guitar-driven “Mané and Salah” came in 2020, a UK drill track that compared the dependability of his comrades to popular Liverpool soccer players Sadio Mané and Mohamed Salah.
