Yonatan Razel’s considerable abilities find root once again in this contemporary gem, his 2017 release Poteach Lev. An intimate vocalist who backs up his earthly, emotive delivery with classical training and a well-flexed pop muscle, Razel delivers wonderfully immersive and resonant Jewish-Israeli melodies. His heart-warming, cinematic lyricism on tracks like “Now I’m Flying” is punctuated by eloquent keys, sax, clarinet and strings, lifting listeners skyward. The title song also borrows an uplifting trumpet—but his abundant charisma as singer/songwriter, conductor and arranger shines throughout.
