Musically, Love Remains resonates with more overt twang than Alice Peacock’s previous albums, partially in thanks to Nashville producer Danny Myrick who co-produced and co-wrote the album with her. Like Peacock, he was raised in a family with a minister patriarch, so there are songs here that touch on and question the honest applications of faith in everyday life — “Real Life” is a catchy ditty with hooks honed by mandolin and pedal steel tucked under words musing on the possibility that playing music on the road could be one’s life and religion. “If I Could Talk to God” is an uplifting tune that dives deeper into belief based topics by raising questions about world suffering, destiny and the often unattainable simplicity of human compassion. The roots rocking “Forgiveness” urges people to try and make a better world by exercising amnesty. It’s tricky to execute a song like this without coming off preachy and idealistic, but Peacock pulls it off here and throughout Love Remains.
