As a film director with a strong minimalist vision, Jim Jarmusch also values soundtrack music that’s in sync with his visual strengths. This score features Jarmusch’s glorious trio SQURL and Dutch composer-lutist Jozef Van Wissem riffing through dark ambient pieces that value sparse orchestral touches, unnerving, disembodied vocals, and guitar distortion alongside an occasional underground rocker (“Please Feel Free to P*ss in the Garden”). “Spooky Action at a Distance” lives up to its title. Yasmine Hamden’s “Hal” casts its own spell.
