Signed to Yo Gotti’s CMG imprint, Lil Poppa specializes in a style where melodic rap and pain rap meet. Never one to shy away from tough subjects, the Floridian rapper continues down his artistic path through an emotional minefield with Almost Normal Again. Like its 2024 predecessor WEE ARE WHO WE ARE, this 16-track effort finds him in a reflective mode again, reminiscing, lamenting, and seeking peace. He chooses death over dishonor on “Bout My Respect” and offers a glimpse of betrayal on the moving “What I Seen.” While lessons from the streets and otherwise largely set the tone, some moments have an inherently poppier appeal than others, namely “I Hate You” and “Start Trippin (Shawty Fine).” Though the album is predominantly a solo affair, his handful of guests include Mozzy, who comes ready to commiserate on “Pain All Gone,” and Yungeen Ace, who brings his anguished expertise in their shared subgenre to “1 Hellavah Life.”
