Still Standing
Album - Hip-Hop/Rap, Music, Rock, Rap
While the vast majority of rappers see their careers come and go within a few short years, there is a certain class of OGs who have bucked that trend, continuing to release quality music for decades and still staying sharp. The Bay Area seems to have many artists who fit this description, including Too Short, Del, Andre Nickatina, and E-40, among others. Repping the Fillmore District, Rappin 4-Tay clearly belongs in that group; he debuted on the 1988 classic Life Is...Too Short, before releasing his first solo album Rappin 4-Tay Is Back in 1991. Since then, he has dropped nine more LPs and a million collaborations, working with just about every street-centric West Coast rapper from Spice 1 and Mac Mall to Keak Da Sneak to Tupac. Still Standing features relentlessly smooth production, heavy on the R&B vibe and trunk-rattling slap beats, with standout cuts like "Would You Be Wit Me," "Left My Baby Home," "Drip," and "Live 2gether." This is grown man rap from a true California kingpin.
