Savannah Churchill began her professional career in music in 1941, making her recording debut with Jimmy Lytell And His All Star Seven in 1942, on the notable jump hits "Fat Meat Is Good Meat" and "Two-Faced Man." In 1943, she joined Benny Carter and remained with him for two years, recording "Hurry Hurry!" and "Just A Baby’s Prayer At Twilight" for Capitol Records. In 1945, she signed a solo contract with Manor Records, releasing the R&B hits "Daddy Daddy," "I Want To Be Loved (But Only By You)," and "Time Out For Tears." She subsequently recorded several beautiful ballads for RCA, before joining Decca in 1953, releasing R&B material such as "Shake A Hand" and "Life Is But A Dream."
