Akkord (sometimes stylized as Δkkord) is an electronic music duo from Manchester, England whose hard-to-pin-down sound traverses the spectrum ranging from sparse, experimental drum'n'bass to heavy, dread-filled post-dubstep. The duo was formed in 2011 by Synkro (Joe McBride) and Indigo (Liam Blackburn), drum'n'bass/dubstep producers who had previously released several collaborative 12" singles together. The duo soon signed with Fabric sublabel Houndstooth, and released the dark, dubby Navigate EP in May of 2013. Akkord's self-titled debut full-length arrived by the end of the year, exploring dark ambient textures as well as mutated U.K. garage-influenced beats, putting them in the company of artists such as Demdike Stare and Objekt. Further releases paid tribute to the duo's jungle roots with more breakbeat-heavy tracks. ~ Paul Simpson
