About Baiyon
Životopis interpreta
Japanese audio and visual artist Baiyon (aka Tomohisa Kuramitsu) is a part of Osaka's anything-goes noise and electronica scenes, playing gigs and appearing on compilations with the likes of Melt Banana and Satanicpornocultshop. Unlike these acts, however, Baiyon's music -- which he creates by mixing field recordings with eight-bit sounds and manipulating video-game chips -- is as likely to be delicately playful as it is loud and volatile. He began painting and making music in 1998. A few years later, he founded the Brain Escape Sandwich Recordings label and issued a series of EPs, including Mixed Waste and Jusco Punk, a collaboration with musician/filmmaker Hans Fjellestad. Fjellestad included a track by Baiyon on the soundtrack of his 2004 documentary Moog. As a visual artist, Kuramitsu went by the name Wet Side and applied his organic, squiggly approach to everything from paintings and posters to T-shirts, underwear, and collections of copyright-free graphics. ~ Heather Phares
