A quintet of biological brothers--Grady, Anthony, Jared, Cheyenne, and Jacob Harrell--with an image and sound based as much on pioneering all-brother act the Jackson 5 as much as more contemporary artists such as R. Kelly, Brutha was formed in 2002 in Los Angeles. In early 2008, after linking up with producer Jermaine Dupri, the group was featured in a one-hour special broadcast on Atlanta public access television that offered a candid take on their successful audition for Island Def Jam Recording Group. The program attracted the attention of BET, which featured the group in the similar "Brothers to Brutha" in the fall of 2008. The full-length debut BRUTHA followed the same year.
