The South African DJ and producer Dr. Peppa specializes in bridging generational gaps within his home country’s hip-hop scene. After DJing for the South African rap superstar Cassper Nyovest, Peppa began releasing his own music in 2018. He struck gold with 2019’s trendsetting, hip-hop/amapiano hybrid “What It Is” (featuring Lucasraps, Chang Cello, and Riky Rick). In 2020, Peppa brought Cassper Nyovest, Focalistic, and Blxckie together for 2020’s drill-inspired “Bambelela,” as well as released the playful trap anthem “Mntase” featuring Blxckie, Chang Cello, Lord Script, and Aux Cable of Witness the Funk.
