Flatsound navigates intimate guitar, atmospheric electronics, various other instruments, noise, and field recordings, all in intimate settings for his brooding indie songs and ambient instrumentals. The singer/songwriter started releasing his self-recorded songs and experiments in 2007, and he had released over a half-dozen albums before issuing the 2017 compilation Stayed Up Until Sunrise But Got to Fall Asleep to the Sounds of Birds Singing. He continued to alternate between song-oriented albums such as 2022's When You Run Away, Do You Close Your Eyes and experimental instrumental releases like 2023's You Can't Impress Anyone with Normal Pictures of the Sea in the first half of the 2020s. In 2025, his vulnerable, 16-year-old song "I Exist I Exist I Exist" landed on Billboard's TikTok chart while finding viral success across platforms.
