Jaubi (pronounced jaw-be) is an experimental quartet based in Lahore, Pakistan. Named after an Urdu word that means "whatever," their motto is "creating whatever sounds good and whatever feels good." They place strong emphasis on incorporating complex elements from Hindustani classical music, and meld it with hip-hop, funk, neo-soul, and spiritual jazz. Following the Hindustani aural classical tradition, they compose strictly by ear. Their debut single was a cover of J Dilla's "Time: The Donut of the Heart," in 2016, followed by The Deconstructed Ego EP. Nafs at Peace, their debut long-player, was released by Astigmatic in 2021.
