One of the most unique acts to rise from the San Francisco rock scene of the 1960s, Lamb were not strictly a rock band but a primarily acoustic duo whose sound was indebted to folk, jazz, gospel, country, pop and even classical influences. Lamb was founded on the talents of singer and guitarist Barbara Mauritz and multi-instrumentalist Bob Swanson, as Mauritz's strong, dramatic vocals wove around Swanson's precise, evocative guitar work. They caught the attention of rock impresario Bill Graham, who signed them to his Fillmore label for their debut LP, 1970's A Sign of Change. Lamb adopted a more conventional folk-rock sound for their sophomore effort, 1971's Cross Between, and 1971's Bring Out the Sun was a showcase for Mauritz's gospel influences. Decades after they split up, a cache of early Lamb recordings saw belated release on 2025's An Extension of Now: Unreleased Recordings 1968-69.
