English singer Megan McKenna has a knack for capturing the highs and lows of life in her polished pop music, by turns celebrating life’s greatest joys and showing deep vulnerability. The former reality TV star was born in London in 1992, and appeared in shows like Ex on the Beach and Celebrity Big Brother before winning 2019’s The X Factor: Celebrity on the strength of her powerful voice. By that point, she’d already released her country-tinged debut album, 2018’s Story of Me, which contained the fiery, cosmos-evoking love song “Odds,” the brokenhearted “Everything but You,” and the orchestral title track, on which she opens up about her fears and trust issues. McKenna has a gift—no doubt honed during her TV days—for nuanced vocal expression, which draws listeners in and makes them sympathetic to her desire for love on 2021’s “This” or puts them in the mood to groove on dance-floor jam “Won’t Go Back Again.”
