The versatile cellist Peter Esswood has been active as a soloist, chamber musician, orchestral player, and educator. He has also been heard on pop and electronic albums. Esswood taught cello for many years at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. In 1988, he made his recording debut on the single Stop!, by British alternative rock artist Sam Brown. His classical debut came in 1993 on Dreams, Memories and Landscapes by electronic artist Simon Emmerson. Esswood became head of strings at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff in 1992, remaining in that position until 2012. In 2024, Esswood performed on Prayer: The Songs of Morten Lauridsen, backing baritone Jeremy Huw Williams.
