About Terry Evans

Born in Vicksburg, Mississippi, Terry Evans sang in the church junior choir, his first exposure to music. After singing with a high-school vocal group, he moved to Southern California and began playing guitar and writing songs. In the '70s, he played Stax-styled soul and gospel with Bobby King, and became a background vocalist for Ry Cooder. Evans' breakthrough arrived when he sang in the movie Crossroads. In 1993, Evans released his first solo album, Blues for Thought, on Pointblank. After signing with Audioquest, Evans recorded Puttin' It Down and Come to the River for the label. He recorded several albums in a duo with Dutch blues artist Hans Theessink during the 21st century. Evans died in January 2018 at the age of 80. ~ Char Ham
