Şehinşah cut his teeth in the Turkish hip-hop underground for many years before 2016 smash DEEV affirmed his widespread rule. Powered by the rapper’s idiosyncratic flow and rapid-fire rhymes, the dub- and boom-bap-leaning brew was concocted by trusted producer DJ Arzt and includes several good-humoured skits. A more sombre side of the MC and songwriter emerges in sneering, politically conscious trap anthems and thunderous, metaphor-charged cuts. Elsewhere, collabs with the likes of Kubilay Karça put an irresistibly left-field spin on Turkish rap.
